OVERVIEW |
Caledon is
equally at home whether inspiring the 55,000 soccer crowd at Hampden Park with
a stirring new version of Flower of Scotland, or on the stage of the
world-famous Sydney Opera House, singing to a packed auditorium of music
lovers. The group had a sensational first year which included highlights such
as performing in front of Her Majesty The Queen at the opening of the Scottish
Parliament and for His Excellency, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the
inaugural Robert Burns Memorial Lecture at the United Nations Headquarters in
New York as well as closing Scotland's largest rock and pop festival, T - in
the Park. Having recently completed sell-out tours of North America, Australia and New Zealand, Scotland’s “three divine voices” (Edinburgh Evening News) returned to Scotland to perform a famous concert at the Edinburgh Festival. Accompanied by the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, "On A Beautiful Scottish Evening" was filmed beneath the magnificent backdrop of a floodlit Edinburgh Castle. The recording, containing Caledon’s wonderful arrangements of great Scottish classics like Loch Lomond; My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose; Will Ye Go Lassie, Go; Highland Cathedral and Auld Lang Syne, has recently been released on DVD, Video and CD. The tenors kicked off the Scottish leg of their 2005 tour at a packed Theatre Royal, Glasgow accompanied by the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, and 2005 also saw them return to tour in the U.S., record a St. Patrick's Day special for Ulster Television in Ireland, and front an international showcase in New York for the Scottish Government during the Tartan Day celebrations. 2006 will see the group return to the US to publicise the P.B.S. broadcasting of "On A Beautiful Scottish Evening", accept invitations to make its debuts in China and Malaysia and take up a two month residency in Berlin at the Tipi-das-Zelt theatre. "The Power And The Passion" - Caledon’s exciting new album of powerfully emotive Scots Song, recorded with a full symphony orchestra and containing such classics as Will Ye No' Come Back Again; Speed Bonnie Boat and Sailing, is due for release on October 3rd from R.E.L. Records. |

Alan
Beck Alan hails from Lanarkshire and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He later won the entrance scholarship to the Postgraduate Opera Course at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 1995 Alan won the British Wagner Society Singing Competition at Covent Garden and was subsequently awarded the society’s Bayreuth Bursary. Later that year, he also won the Wolfgang Wagner Singing Competition in London in front of Dr Wagner and Dame Gwyneth Jones. He made his operatic début in 1995 for Opera Ireland and was a principal tenor with the State Opera, Stuttgart from 1996 to 2002, singing many roles in the German and central European repertoire. Alan has also sung principal tenor roles for Lyric Opera Dublin and the Carl Rosa Opera and in 2002 he made his début as Siegmund in Wagner’s Die Walküre at the London Coliseum for English National Opera. Most recently he has been singing with Welsh National Opera as Bacchus in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. Jamie MacDougall Born in Glasgow, Jamie MacDougall has established himself as one of the country’s most versatile young performers. Since 2001, Jamie has been Scotland’s voice of classical music presenting Grace Notes, for BBC Radio Scotland. He sings regularly with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra – most recently at the 2004 Christmas Day Special from Aberdeen. 2003 saw his TV presenting début on BBC Scotland’s Proms in the Park from Glasgow as part of the Last Night of the Proms festivities. His singing career has taken him to Europe, the Far East and North America, as well as Australia performing at festivals such as the Edinburgh International, Salzburg and Aldeburgh. Jamie has also worked with some of the world’s top Baroque, Chamber and Symphony orchestras. With over 20 CD recordings to date, Jamie is currently in the middle of recording the complete folk song output of Joseph Haydn. The project is due for completion in 2008. Ivan Sharpe Ivan hails from Dunbartonshire, where at an early age he began his vocal training as a boy soprano. After winning a Pilgrim Scholarship, he became Head Chorister at Winchester Cathedral. He graduated from Royal Holloway College and went on to win a scholarship to study in the Opera School of the Guildhall School of Music. During this time, he was a .nalist in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier and The Royal Overseas League Singing Competitions. Upon graduating Ivan returned to Scotland where he performed for Opera West, followed by several tours as a leading tenor with Scottish Opera-go-round. This led to him making débuts with Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Flanders Opera, Royal Carl Rosa Opera and the City of Birmingham Touring Opera. Over the last decade he has sung most of the tenor parts in the oratorio repertoire, as well as giving numerous recitals of German lieder, French chanson and Scots songs. Michael Barnett Music Director Michael is a double graduate in Music from Glasgow University. Since then, he has worked predominantly in the .eld of Dance, and for a decade was based at the Dance School of Scotland, latterly as Musical Associate. He has worked for many other dance companies and education units, including those of Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera, Northern Ballet Theatre, Rambert Dance Company, the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Royal Academy of Dance and Ballet West (USA). Michael is also a very experienced concert performer and Music Director, equally at home in the ‘pit’ orchestra as the stage. Recent engagements include playing on the UK tour of Chicago, and as a regular keyboard player with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He has a wealth of experience of Scottish music and has worked with many well-known .gures in Scottish entertainment including Jack Milroy, Peter Morrison and Jimmy Macgregor.
