CELTIC
CHRISTIAN MUSIC OF THE FIRST |
||||||||||||||||
There is an ever growing awareness of the role of the Celts in the evolution of Christianity. This is evident not least in their music. On this album one can hear the lovely voice of Kirsten Easdale with her selection of 14 songs spanning the first, second and now third millennia. The
oldest, 'The Hymn of St Columba', was written in the 6th Century and has been
sung at the burial of every Scottish king since then. 'The Lord's Prayer' is
sung to the original tune for which Robert Burns wrote the words of 'Auld Lang
Syne', in the 18th Century. 'Light of Light' is Kirsten's own song, written for
this album. |

When it became obvious that our record label R2 should
record Kirsten, it immediately became clear that the content should be of a
folk/religious nature. Kirsten has long been a lover of the songs on this
album. There is a wealth of traditional/folk material in the hymns and
religious songs of Scotland and Ireland. Now these tunes have been given a
Celtic treatment. |
