Santa Claus is having an identity crisis. Everywhere he goes he is faced with look-alikes and he doesn't know who he is any more. So he goes to see a psychiatrist who, in the best tradition, takes him back to his childhood.

As Santa describes his evolution down the ages, we visit locations all over the world associated with the legend – Turkey, Italy, Holland, Siberia, Israel, Britain and America. We hear how he first worked miracles, why he started giving gifts, and how he learned to fly through the sky, and come down chimneys. How he became commercialised in America with a town named for him, a university offering degrees in Santaclausery, and package holidays to his home at the 'North Pole'.
